'Heart of the Clann' (pre-production)

PLOT:

In an ancient and forgotten time, Elrin, a young warrior of the clann, still haunted by the guilt of a past deed, embarks on a quest to unravel the secret to the mysterious disappearance of the children from his village.

Living in the woods as a recluse is Hunter, a retired and once famous gladiator. He lives as a man of the wilderness, taking refuge from the clannsfolk who have long wrongly suspected him of abducting the town’s children.

In a bid to prove that Hunter is the killer and avenge his younger sister, Elrin shadows Hunter stealthily through the woods and is led unwittingly upon a hero’s quest, plunging deep into a dark realm of subterranean caves where an ancient evil is stirring. The ageing warrior and the headstrong youth form an unlikely friendship, later being joined in their quest unexpectedly by Aricia and Gareth.

Aricia, a beautiful young warrior brought up in the clan as a refugee, is the subject of Elrin and his childhood rival Gareth’s affections. They forge an alliance with Elrin and Hunter, but Aricia struggles to bring the two young rival warriors together towards a common goal.

The group embarks on a perilous adventure where they encounter the ultimate tests of courage, friendship, love and sacrifice. As the dark forces of Nagas are unleashed, the townsfolk rise to the call in a climactic battle for the heart of the clann.

'Zenon: Z3' (2003)
Disney

PLOT: This is the second sequel to the first Zenon film. Shot in Cape Town, South Africa, ‘Zenon: Z3’ is the story of Zenon Carr, the girl of the twenty-first century, and her intergalactic adventures. When an international contest is held consisting of the planet’s most prominent young competitors in a race to the moon to celebrate the Moonstock festival, Zenon is a most obvious participant. Along with her friends from the previous Zenon films, and a new arrival in her extended family, Dasha (who insists on copying Zenon in everything from clothes to speech), Zenon competes in the event to find herself alongside a most competitive Australian candidate in Bronley Hale. When Selena, the moon Goddess makes it clear to Zenon of her unhappiness with the newcomers on her planet, Zenon has to face another task –trying to convince everyone to get off the moon, before Selena loses her temper and their efforts come too late!

ROLE: Bronley Hale is used to winning everything he sets out to win. He once rescued his space station from total disaster and carries himself with the stature of a self-admitted hero. He is highly competitive, especially with Zenon, although they also share a certain intimacy…When he is told about the disaster scheduled to happen if they do not leave the planet, Bronley is highly skeptical and believes it to be a scheme from Zenon so that she can win the competition.

'Chuck Finn' (1999) (series)
- Barron Entertainment for the BBC & Channel 7 Australia.

PLOT: Chuck Finn is a cool, fun-loving young teen who is forced to leave his bustling hometown of Toronto, Canada with his family on his father’s work assignment, to the dusty nothing town of Tingalla, Australia. Felling out of place and deprived of his usual idea of entertainment, he joins a group of kids, who become Chuck’s closest friends, as part of a crew on one of the local paddle-steam boats. Shaken by the appearance of two local ghosts aboard the ship, the Tingalla Rose, and constantly harassed by the local bully, Tiny Maloney and his gang, Chuck goes about trying to fit in, in his new home away from home.

ROLE: ‘Tiny Maloney’

Tiny is the leader of the town gang of tough guys. Bigger and older than the other kids in his group, Tiny takes control of whoever he wants and gets whatever he wants. The gang is always finding a way to get at the Tingalla Rose gang, but as is often the case with the bad guys, Tiny finds himself paying the price for his own plans.

'Sally Marshall is Not an Alien' (1998)
- Cinar Pictures in association with the South Australian Film Corporation.

PLOT: An adaptation of the novel by Amanda McKay, ‘Sally Marshall is Not an Alien’ is the story of Pip Lawson and her best friend, Ben Handleman, whose simple beachside life is interrupted when a strange girl from a foreign place arrives in town. Intrigued and skeptical of her strange behavior (reading books upside-down, wearing strange clothes, and the constant sounds of machine work coming from the Marshall’s garage) Rhonnie, the local bully is convinced that Sally, and the entire Marshall family are aliens. As a great admirer of astronomy, through the lens of her expensive telescope, Pip tries to convince Rhonnie that aliens are non-existent. She is cornered into accepting a bet against Rhonnie to prove that the Marshall family is not from another planet, with the stake of losing her telescope. With Ben’s help, the two go about analyzing the every-day movements the family make in order to prove that everything is normal, only to find that perhaps they are not as normal as they had hoped.

ROLE: ‘Ben Handleman’

Glenn McMillan - Sally Marshall is not an Alien As the youngest child and only boy of a family with several children, Ben is always dressed in pink hand-me-downs. He struggles with being picked on by most of the other kids on the beach –especially Rhonnie and her gang. He wants to be a good skateboarder, but unfortunately has little skill. Ben is a good friend to Pip, but his feelings for her are more than what she has for him and is rejected when he lets her know how he feels. Ben is also tempted by Rhonnie to betray Pip’s trust in him when he is bribed by Rhonnie to steal the evidence Pip has been gathering.

'Six Characters in Search of an Author' (1995)
- State Theatre Company of South Australia.

PLOT: Written by Italian Nobel Prize winner, Luigi Pirandello, ‘Six Characters in Search of an Author’ is the author’s attempt at revolutionizing the perspective on the relationship between reality and illusion –art and life. Pirandello’s stated intention of the piece is to stage the irresolvable conflict between characters and the author, characters and the actor, and characters and the director. The premise of the play is that these six characters have taken on a life of their own because their author has failed to complete the story. They invade a rehearsal of another Pirandellian play and insist on playing out the life that is rightfully theirs. Suggesting that life defies all simple interpretations, Pirandello's characters rebel against their creator. They attack the foundation of the play, refusing to follow stage directions and interfering with the structure of the play until it breaks down into a series of alternately comic and tragic fragments.

Excerpt taken from: www.imagi-nation.com\moonstruck\clsc30.html

ROLE: ‘Young Boy’

The character has no dialogue for the entirety of the play due to the fact that, in the character’s own story, he will die at the end by his own will. Similarly, the young girl does not speak as she shares a similar fate at the end of their story.
